Blackboard related forms are listed under Blackboard Interfaces.

Most of these Blackboard forms are processed automatically once an hour. The exceptions are the “Request Dev/Org Course” and the “Instructor Course Copy”.

NOTE: Questions regarding web grading within E-
Bruno can be answered by the registrar’s
office (Bret Blackman @ 554-2260)
Request Visitor Accounts

On this form instructors can request up to 9 visitor accounts. These visitors are then available for the instructor’s use in the future. They do not expire and will not be deleted.
They can be used if an instructor wants to have someone outside of UNO to be in the Blackboard class, such as a visiting professor, or a guest lecturer. The account will have a user name of LNshortname_vx, but the first and last name and the email can be changed, so it can take the identity of the person using it.

NOTE:
1. If the instructor needs more than 9 visitor accounts, he/she will need to send an email requesting more visitor accounts to blackboard@unomaha.edu including the reason as to why more accounts are needed. Additional accounts may be granted if the reason is legitimate.
2. Visitor accounts are not usable until a password is set for the account. See also “Reset Password on Visitor Accounts” To get this account into a class, use the Grant Access.
3. The instructor is the only one who can change the password. (In E-Bruno for Faculty). When the guest lecturer is done with the account, the instructor should change the password to insure the account is not used.
4. The instructor has total control of the account. The same person can use the account for the semester, or a different person can use it every week, or it is never used.
Reset Password on
Visitor Accounts

Visitor accounts are controlled by the instructor. Only he/she can set/reset passwords for the individual visitor accounts and only on this form. It is up to the instructor to grant/remove individuals access to the visitor accounts.

NOTE:
1. Visitor accounts are generally used for non-UNO-affiliated individuals that need access to blackboard courses to enhance the students learning experience. Such as guest discussions.
2. Visitor accounts need to be granted access to courses in order to be usable with a course. Also see “Grant Access”.

Grant Access

In order to give anyone, besides the already enrolled students, access to a particular course, the individual needs to be granted both access and certain rights to the course. Access must also be granted to visitor accounts for visitors to be able to participate in courses. The registrar’s office wants only paying students (in SIS) to be enrolled in a course. This should NOT be the way an instructor adds a student into the course.

Username =
1. if individual is affiliated with UNO then username = Lotus Notes shortname
2. if individual not affiliated with UNO than visitor account needs to be used.

Blackboard Course ID =
Course identification such as HIST-1000-001.

Crosslisted vs. Merged =
1. Crosslisted courses are listed more than one time in the course catalog such as Under-grad and Honors and are identified as such. They meet same time, same place. In Blackboard they are indicated by “XLIST” on the end of the course ID.
2. Merged courses are created by the instructor teaching the class. See also “Merge Course”
3. If the course is not crosslisted or merged leave the bullets blank

Access =
There are several access options that can be given to individuals:

a. Student
b. Course Builder
c. Grader
d. Teaching Assistant
e. Instructor

NOTE: You cannot grant “student” access to UNO students who are not enrolled, per the Registrar’s requirements.
Merge Courses

If an instructor teaches two sections of one particular course and wants to use one blackboard course account for all the students he/she can merge the two courses into a new course which will include the enrollment of both sections
ISQA-4110-001 merged with ISQA-4110-002 =
ISQA-4110-Merged

When the courses are merged, a third course is created, with the combined students. The original courses do not go away. The content of the other sections are not in the merged course. The instructor can Course Copy the material. See the Course Copy page.

NOTE: The instructor must be the instructor listed for the course in SIS. No one else can merge courses.
Request Development Course/Organization

An instructor can request the following:

Development Course =
Can be used for testing/development purposes. If an instructor is teaching CHEM-1500 once every couple of years and wants to keep the contents of the course for later use, or if an instructor is going to teach ISQA-3500 in the future and wants to work on contents before hand, a development course can be requested.

NOTE: Development courses are never deleted, whereas semester specific courses are deleted after one year.

Organization=
Can be used for organization/departmental purposes such as a project that more than one instructor is working on or a UNO organization.

NOTE: There are no set guidelines for organizations. Requests are granted on a case-by-case basis. Student Organizations need a faculty sponsor to request for a blackboard organization. Members are entered manually by the blackboard administrator once an organization was approved and set up. This is done via email between faculty member and the blackboard administrator.
Instructor Copy

This form can be used to copy course contents from one course to another.

For example: if an instructor merged two sections of a course and wants to move the contents of one of the sections to the merged course.

NOTE: If you copy the contents of two courses into another, duplication of contents can occur. So if an instructor has a folder called Syllabus in both classes that were copied over, the merged course would have two syllabus folders.

When quizzes are copied, they show they are available, but aren’t available anywhere. Instructors need to make then unavailable, and then make them available again.
