Introduction

Information Technology Services, in conjunction with Business and Finance and Pharos Systems, has introduced a next-generation computer lab printing solution called 'Uniprint' to better serve the needs of UNO customers. This new system uses an individual's UNO photo ID card (which may be 'charged' with money) to pay for printed documents in computer labs in the Milo Bail Student Center, Durham Science Center Rms 104 and 370, the College of Arts and Sciences, the UNO Library, Performing Arts Center Rm 130 and the Peter Kiewit Institute. More locations will be added to the system in the near future.

This new system consists of a swipe card reader and a printing release station (a computer dedicated to managing printing). The basic process is this: a user in the computer lab takes the steps to print a document (File>Print>choose the correct printer and select OK). A window will pop up and ask for their name and a unique name for this print job. The document will be sent to the printer's queue waiting for further action. The user will proceed to the printing release station and swipe their ID card through the reader, then select the appropriate printing job from the print queue. The pages will be printed, and the appropriate amount of funds will be subtracted from the user's account. Below are some frequently asked questions, and answers, about this new system.

Note: The print system in the UNO College of Business 4th floor lab is different than the campus print solution. Money placed on this system will not be available for printing in other labs on campus and vice versa.

1. What is Uniprint? Why are we changing systems? [back to top]Uniprint is a software-based laser printing solution provided as a cost-effective solution to give students, staff and faculty high-quality affordable laser printing in all ITS and partner computer user rooms. The system frees you to print your documents without having to see the on duty consultant and without having to carry a separate card. You can charge your card in the evenings and on the weekend for printing. You can tell how much a print job will cost before it is physically printed.
2. Who can print using Uniprint? [top]Any UNO student, faculty or staff member can print in any user room where Uniprint is operational. 'Guest' print cards can be purchased at one of the automated stations for $1.00. However, when swiped to print, the balance will show only 50 cents due to transaction costs.
3. Where is Uniprint available? [top]Uniprint is available in the following user rooms: ASH 183, ASH 300, ASH 304, DSC 104, DSC 370, MBSC 104, PKI 158A, PAC 130, and the UNO Library.
4. How much does it cost to print? [top]Regular 8.5X11 B&W prints: $0.02 per page across campus, except in the Library which charges $0.05 per page. Color laser prints: $0.30 per page.
5. How do I get a refund if my printouts are not acceptable? [top]Refunds will be handled on a case-by-case basis and will normally be only for malfunctioning equipment, low toner, streaks, etc. Users should make certain that the print job looks the way they want it BEFORE printing. Refunds will NOT be given for formatting issues. You should bring the failed print out directly to an on-duty lab consultant or departmental lab manager. They will assist you with reprinting to a functional piece of equipment at no additional cost. If that fails you may request that they submit a request for a refund to your photo ID account.
6. How/where do I put money into my Uniprint account? [top]Automated stations are located in MBSC (near the Bookstore), ASH (1st floor vending area), PKI and the UNO Library. Minimum input is $1.00. You can also visit the Student Center business office on the 2d floor.
7. How can I check my Uniprint balance? [top]Your balance will show on the printing release computer's monitor after you swipe your card.
8. Is duplex (2-sided) printing available? [top]No, duplex printing is not available in the MBSC and DSC user rooms
9. What about color printing? [top]Color laser printing is available in the MBSC and DSC user rooms and the UNO Library. See above for cost.
10. Can I use my own paper? [top]You can use your own paper in the manual feed tray. The cost is the same as printing with our paper. Also, if another user prints to the printer before you do, you may lose your paper to that other person's print job. ITS will not refund or replace any paper lost in this manner.
11. Can I print from my laptop or personal computer? [top]Yes, after downloading and installing the appropriate printer drivers for the lab in question. More information here.
12. What if the network goes down? [top]We intend to provide a solution whereby printing can continue and your account charged later when the network comes back up.
13. What happens to my balance at the end of each semester? When I leave the university, for whatever reason, can I get a refund from my account? [top]Any funds in your account will be carried forward to the next semester. However, with proper proof that you are leaving the university, any funds in your account can be refunded to you at the Student Center business office.
14. I have questions about my UNO photo ID or photo ID account. [top]Information for UNO photo ID and photo ID account may be found at http://mavcard.unomaha.edu
